Sounds noble, but is a bad idea. What sounds like benevolence to a fellow is not as simple as it might sound.

 

I think that to make it work at all, you'd have to be separate from FTE -- to avoid any legal issues. Maybe a sticky in the general section could point folks to it .

There is probably nothing like money to come between good people.
In this case, while some of you know each other personally, many are connected only by the web. It's easy to imagine the types of misunderstandings that might occur.

It's sad, but I was in a club that suspected the treasurer of taking off with $700. I'm still not convinced that he did. However, a lot of people were, and they wanted to get the cash, and to ban him from sanctioned activities
NATIONWIDE!. It took them years, but they got their $700. There are just a lot of things that can happen when money is involved -- even when it's really not very much.

You might be better off to let your conscience be your guide. In other words, if a member is in trouble, decide for yourself if you want to help. Maybe pm
a few folks to see if they want to jump in. That way nobody's wondering if
there's any hanky pank going on.

I will say that I see a lot of posts showing how kind and generous many FTErs are -- not necessarily including myself.

A few months ago Michele and I were the recipient of some money from an FTE user.
after hearing of the $1000.00 cash Michele got duped out of.

It appeared he knew that every cent of income is important to meet our monthly expenses and even though I don't like receiving charity.... on behalf of Michele I accepted and felt very very grateful for what this ONE FTE user did for us monetarily.
He acquired our mailing address and sent some funds.

He stated that one of his reasons for giving was because of who I was and what I stood for.
That being: UN-selfish in my time and knowledge given to people on FTE.


Personally, I felt quite good after receiving a bunch of cards of encouragement during that particular time but, things haven't changed much financially .....in the big picture.



Regarding the topic:
It could work if sone right & I would be all for it if I was in the position of donating to it
but, just who would be in charge of the account?

tewfer- i wouldnt abandon the idea just yet. in the past i have offered and many of us have cowboyed up to help others. i dont see a way to make some kind of slushfund deal, but i think the way it has worked in the past is pretty solid. if you would like to contribute, and it is within your means then contribute. but it always takes someone else in the forum to spearhead the deal. you figure out a way to get the funds to carl and i could donate to help get him back. i am not around as much as i want to be right now so i cant handle any logistics, but if you wanna pm his address to those interested i think we could all find a way to help if we are so inclined. that said, if you pm his address i will mail him some love. just my .02. I see a few problems that could arise here. First off, I think it's a pretty good idea on paper but would there be a limit on the amount given? Also, how would you know for sure if the person was actually in need of the money or just pulling chains? And who would be worthy of the fund? Is it only those who've been on FTE for 5 years or more, or for everyone no matter how long they've been on FTE? Also, would the money need to be paid back over time?

I guess what I'm saying is that the potential for scams is there and the need of some kind of "commision" would be needed to oversee who got the money. It seems like a bit of a headache to me.
