Hello have a 1989 F250 with 5.8 the check engin lite been poping on after a few seconeds of run so pulled code came up with
ACT (VAT) input too high.
Canister purge (CANP) circuit failure.
I am not familer with these and the only thing that seams off with the truck is it likes to surge bad at low rpms and will at times slow on down and die
a little info on these codes would be nice. Thankyou
ACT would be the air charge temp sensor, and voltage too high would mean that it says the air being pulled into your truck is warmer than it is. This can cause the mixture to run lean and affect your idle. To check it, remove it and check the return voltage (and for the life of me I can't remember which color wire it is, www.fordfuelinjection.com will tell you though) while heating it up with a lighter or something similar and check for the increase in voltage. Make sure to note your voltage before you start heating it. If the voltage increases smoothly then its working correctly, and if it is jumpy and not moving much then the sensor is faulty. As for the purge canister I wouldnt worry to much about that until you fix the air charge temp sensor and clear the codes and then see if it keeps coming back.
