My owners manual says to use Motorcraft Mercon in my power steering.
I couldn't find any Motorcraft power steering fluid.
I siphoned all of what was in the reservoir out. (It was Red), and refilled with Prestone power steering fluid for all Ford and GM vehicles. (It was clear)
So now I have a mixture. Is that OK?
Also, Is synthetic brake fluid (Prestone) ok to mix with fluid that doesn't say synthetic? Thanks, Dan
most power steering systems use auto. transmission fluid since it is ford use mercon. as for brake fluid if it 3 or 4 dot fluid should be fine as long it is not the silicon brake fluid which will not mix with reguler brake fluid.
Did the same thing using regular Power steering fluid . . . . it didn't work. I got wheel woble or jurking of the wheel when I turned. I quickly re sucked out as much as I could and refilled it with trans fluid . . . repeted the process about 5 time before I got the woble out. Bottom line is dont do it!
Mercon is ATF. Any auto parts store ha it. If I were you I would have the PS purged and refilled with Mercon ATF. Why would you want to mix the Break Fluid???
