5th wheel hitch ?

I need to put a 5th wheel hitch in my 96 f-250 ext cab short box, is the slider type necessary?

Probably not if the trailer has an extended pin box; and you are cautious. I do fine without needing a slider for my short bed.

The operative word in '95van' message is 'and you are cautious'. I have a slider and forgot to use it one time and it cost me a new back window.

I have the Reese slider in my SB 06 F250 and I too have the extended pin box. To get in my driveway for cleaning etc, I do have to get close to 90 degrees so yes i needed the slider...without it, I would smack the glass.

Cheers

Like said above you can get away without a slider but you have to keep an eye on things with sharp turns. If you have a tight driveway or something of that nature you will want a slider. I really does help. When I worked at the RV dealer almost all short beds got a slider installed. Most of the older folks wanted them installed in long beds as well.

Good point. I also have the 5th Airbone King Pin, if you wanted the best of both worlds you could get the 5th Airbone Side Winder....get-r-done
