I have the 17" Aluminum 5 spoke rims on my truck, I noted some grey/whitish stuff starting to grow on the rims, is this Oxidization? and how do I get it off?

 

I have aftermarket aluminum wheels on my truck - so I'm not very familar with the makeup of your rims - but are they coated aluminum, chrome, or uncoated aluminum? Mine are uncoated and I had neglected them for a long time until I decided my truck needed a facelift and something HAD to be done with my wheels. I had a thick crust of greyish/whitish/ and black buildup and oxidization on my rims that no wheel cleaner or amount of scrubbing could hardly touch! I've had GREAT luck with Blue Magic wheel cleaner and works GREAT - this time around I simply couldn't take it right off with blue majic and a rag through and used 3m synthetic steel wool and the blue majic and it did an OUTSTANDING job. Took A LOT of elbow grease but it was well worth it, got all the crap off and polished the metal to a great shine. finish it off with a mothers power ball and you'll have a chrome/mirror like shine! Only thing to be VERY careful with on your wheels though is how they are made - there are many acidic cleaners out there that will ruin coated wheels - or at least take off the protective coating where your wheels will need a lot more maintenance to keep looking nice - only after you strip away the rest of the coating. there are other polishes that work for aluminum but are not recommended for chrome etc. Good luck with the wheel cleaning - those details are what will really set off the look of any truck!
