Not sure if have level of experience to 'do it myself' but interested in giving a try. Task consist of repairing window channel which includes forming a corner of the window channel. Already purchased 20 gage angle stock from tool supply outlet. Seen pic's of a stretching tool but tool expensive for the one project and wonder if possible to to accomplish same w/ oxy/acyl., or if another cheaper method. Input appreciated.
I just removed my windshield today on my 77 F150 project truck and I found similar damage that was hidden under my windshield seal. There is a way to repair this damage w/o the shrinker/stretcher tool. The trick is not try to make the repair from a single piece of metal, but make the patch out of two pieces. Make a cardboard template for each and then form and fit them to match adjacent metal. Once you have everything fitting well, tack one piece in place and then tack in your second piece. Then finish welding and grind the welds smooth. That is how I plan to attack my rusted window channels. I will post pictures of my repairs as I complete them. Good luck with your project.
Appreciate the info. In meantime, came across a metal work forum you may or may not find interesting, thought I would post the sight for info purposes. Browsed the various threads and found there are number of post on simular auto body restoration topics. Thanks again.
