I checked the block pretty close it was a B5AE-A for 1955 - sort of wierd because none of my info on Y block casting number shows this number?? I know how some casting numbers can be rough but this is real readable.
G.Day all, new to forum but have same query regarding b5ae engine. Have friend with original 56 F 600 Truck here with B5AE 6015A engine and dont see any info anywhere on the numbers as above, obviously 272? best regards bill.
I havent been checking the posts lately, but thanks for the link. i think i need to get a wire wheel and work the number over although it sure looks to be B5AE-A.
46yblock mentioned some time back to post a pic, and thats not a bad idea.
cussobill glad i'am not the only one with this number delima, LOL maybe we have the only two that exist. Jess
Good luck, I checked all of my info and came up with nothing. If I had to guess, and this is just a guess, I would say its a 272. I wonder if it could be a service block.
I have the same casting info...B5AE 6015A...the engine is out of a '54 f-100...could it be a 239???
Yes, it could be a replacement casting for the 239. What throws people off is that Ford didn't start using that format of casting numbers until the late 50's, maybe 1959. But the B5 means 1955.
So, the implication is that it was actually cast in the late 50's but it is a replacement part for the earlier 50's 239 or 272 block.
I'd love to hear what the bore size of that block is. 3 1/2" or 3 5/8". I will guess that it can be bored to 3 3/4" if need be.
