Cruise control

Can anyone tell me how to trouble shoot my cruise control, or some place I can find it written? It has not worked since I bought the truck (would have been nice to know it wasn't working before I left on that 1000 mile trip to drive it home). It does not do anything. The truck is a 95 F150 with auto tranny.
Thanks,
Terry

Check your fuses first.

The most common problems are

Fuses
Clock spring in steering wheel . But your interior cab stop working.
The fender mounted cruise servo
The switches on wheel themselves

But it could be wiring also or a sensor like said .

Start with fuses , and go from there

It is located on the rear end center top, not on/in the "tranny / transfer case".

Make sure the truck has been to a Ford dealer for the recall on the CC disengage switch on the MC. If not this truck could catch FIRE.
The recall is free.

This was a two part recall. The original part of the recall was to disconect the sensor that tied into the brake system, so that the line was no longer hot, eliminating the chance of fire. Cruise control will not work if this step has been done. The next part was to hook a harness with a fuse and resistor, that would break the circuit if a short occored. This step may not have been done on your truck. Heres a pic of what the harness would look like:

This is the most likely cause. I've had troubles with my speed sensor on my 95, and not only did cruise not work, but neither did the spedometer or odometer.

mine would work every now and then on my old f150. i took the steering wheel off and the little contact on the clock spring was wore down to practically nothing, and the horn also did not work.

My Truck is a 1990 and it has the speed sensor for the cruise control in the Tranny/transfer case. The speed sensor on top of the rear diff is for the Rear ABS system. Your truck may be different but this is how mine is setup.

This is true for 1990 but not for 1995.
