Engine Swap

Gentlemen,
I have a great little 2005 Ranger with a 2.3L.
I would like to replace it with a 2007 4.0 Mustang Crate.
At the end of the day or rather several months I would like to have a Mustang breathing under a Ranger skin.

Any Ideas?

Is the crate engine going to be anything special (built), or just new?

You'll need to replace, at a minimum, both the engine and the tranny, and you'll need a different main wire harness and PCM to work with them.

The same 4.0L SOHC Mustang engine already comes in the Ranger from the factory. So why not just sell yours and buy a '01+ Ranger 4.0L? Then you can go from there.

I can't imagine Ford used the same mounts or drive shaft either, so you would likely need those too.

Otherwise I agree with Rockledge on buying a 4.0L Ranger to begin with. Personally I wouldn't since the 2.3L 5sp (when driven properly) puts the 4.0L to shame when it comes to MPG. Gas ain't cheap!, so I would take 25+ mpg @ 87 octane any day over the 4.0L. Just my $.02
