keep it, fix it or replace with same or different auto box?

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hi all - if anyone can point me in the right direction - awesome

1975, f250 4x4 with 6.4L galaxie motor and what I think is an FMX box.

This image is the tag from the box

the numbers on it are
PHB S
D00U F2B

The issue is that my reverse gear has gone, and I bought the truck with no kick down cable installed either - so have to run the revs up to change gears

So, down here I will get charged $1000 to have the box reconned, but it seems very high. I saw a recon kit on ebay for below $80, but as I am clueless about the inner working and bits that go into an auto box, what must I do? Take it up the 0 or go the more sensible route and get the recon kit etc. Who is the best for getting parts from who will ship internationally - please help out guys!

If a viable solution is a different, new box - suggest away - I saw a make AOD (?? - bad memory) - better highway cruising and milage etc, or keep the box and sort it
Thanks!
Jon

As far as I know a 6.4L is a 390. My old '75 highboy had a C6 transmission. You can find these transmissions just about anywhere. You must have the bellhousing for an FE engine. I Hope this information is helpful.
