Ok, I'm planning on buy this truck with a 390, and here's what I've got TENTITIVLY planned for the 390:
600 cfm performer series edlebrock carb
performer 390 intake (these two things will replace the hideous two barrel intake that's on it now)
KN filter with topflow element
Those are definetly going on there, these last few things I'm not so sure I need imput:
edelbrock performer plus 272/282 hydrolic (sp?) cam
matched valve springs
I can't find any aftermarket roller rockers but then I haven't looked very hard either. How neccesary are they with this setup? any suggestions?
The roller rockers are out there but spendy. Around $510 for a full set from dscmotorsport. Probably not really needed, unless you really need that extra little umph. I was looking at a set but I think I'm just gonna get some adjustable rockers and solid spacers and call it good.
You just described what I'm in the process of building. Hopefully, I'll get my heads back this week and have it put back together shortly. I'll let you know how I like it. I am replacing the stock intake and Crane cam with the Edelbrock package.
Comp cams makes a set that have roller tips, no bushings on the shaft, HD shaft, and also sell a complete setup with end supports.
Dove sells roller rockers that have roller tips, no bushings on the shaft, HD shafts, end supports I think, and studs.
Harland Sharp makes a set with a roller tip and bushings for the shaft. They also sell HD shafts. The price from Summit was $320. The HD shafts were $160 for the pair.
Erson sells a full roller set, but I don't know much about them.
Rocker Arm Specialists make a full roller set up complete with stands and end supports. They make a stainless and aluminum versions, and will set up the assemblies to match you application. When I bought my set, they set them up for the Edelbrock heads which have a different spacing. I've heard that the price for the aluminum set up is about $500 now. I paid more. The stainless version was about $900. If you want the full race set up that may be the way to go.
On a street driven motor, seeing mainly low RPMs and mild cam, the stock adjustable set up would save a lot of money. I would invest the money on a HD shaft. FE's are known to break the rocker shafts on the ends.
dzjammer, hey great minds think alike aye? Yes I'm looking forward to hearing about your buildup. Yeah it sounds like the new roller rockers are pretty spendy. Since it doesn't sound like they're a real neccesity, I'll leave 'em out for now. Thanks for the imput!
