8BA crankcase capacity

8BA crankcase capacity

I have an 8BA with the truck style oil pan. How many quarts does it take to properly fill the crankcase? Lost stock dip stick.

5 quarts, regardless of whether or not there is a filter. This is a subject of hot debate!

Thanks...That's what I had. The engine is an 8BA but the dip stick is stamped 8RT. Wanted to be sure I had sufficient oil in the crank case.

Keep in mind the only thing that distinguished an 8BA from an 8RT was the bolt-on accessories.

Things like oil pan, waterpumps/motor mounts, fans, generator pulley, oil filter location, etc.

Long blocks were the same - some claim the cam was different in the truck, but I've never seen spec sheets for this ...........

So if you've got a good running late flathead, celebrate!! and run it.

Dennis Carpenter lists two flathead cams for 1948-1953 ... 7RT-6252 and EAB-6252. They are not separated by truck/car, though. No matter whether you look up a car or a truck, you see both. I don't know quite what to make of that.

EAB was the prefix for 52/53 flatheads.
