I bought my truck used and it came with a 4" lift and 35's. The problem is it rides like a buckboard. I replaced the shocks (duels front, singles rear) with Bilsteins. They helped a lot but not enough. I tow a jeep or motorcycle trailer and never have more the 7-800lbs in the bed.
My question is; who makes a smooth riding set of springs for a 4" or 6" lift?
Donahoe Racing. I installed the 6 inch all spring lift with dual Bilstiens in the front and single rear. Nicest riding lifted leaf sprung truck I've been in. It's a little bouncy with no load but rides like a cadillac towing. They use Deaver springs for their lift and its a 12 leaf pack for the front and 10 for the rear. They redesigned the springs this year and now have a dual rate rear spring which I want.
If I had to do it again I would have gotten the Donahoe shocks though. They are valved for these trucks. More expensive than the Bilsteins but you get what you pay for. The good news is that if you wait till October, I heard the price on the lifts is going down because there isn't a demand for them like there was.
If you have any questions, let me know or call them. I've met them in person and they are very knowledgable and I've gotten great customer service.
lightningmatt, thanks for the reply. I have talked to both Deaver and Donahoe this past week. Donahoe used to use Deaver but now has their springs made by someone else. Their prices have come down and are now $1,180 for the front and rear. I don't know how they compare to the Deavers, but have heard they are still great springs
Deaver prices are around $1,600 for both front and rear. Both companies prices are for springs only. I already have the dropped pitman arm and brackets intalled, but I'll still need to replace the "U" bolts.
I was hoping there was a more affordable way of improving the ride. I have heard some of the bigger companies have a "Soft Ride" spring and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.
I bought the lift when they still used deavers... I've been pretty happy but I'm really picky. I know I can get the ride better. My friends think I'm crazy... "It's a one ton truck, not a car."
I heard Skyjacker was making a soft ride spring but thats all I know.
