i have a 1965 f100 and the guy who i bought it from seemed to be lying about almost everything. he said it had a 390 but he wasn't so sure. how can i be sure?
Shane F100,
Specs for the 352 are 4.00 bore 3.50 stroke.The
390 is 4.050 bore 3.78 stroke.Short of taking the heads
off and measuring the bore the best shot you have of finding
out what you have is to measure the stroke.Take the plug
out of no 1 cylinder and get it rotated to TDC.Stick a stiff
wire down the plug hole(household 12 gauge works good)and
mark it with a sharpie marker.Rotate the crank 180 degrees
and mark the wire again. If the distance is 3.50 between the
marks then you have a 352.If it is closer to 3.75 then you have
a 390.My guess is that if the motor is original then it
is probably a 352.,but hey you could get lucky.
