Shift Kit problems on tranny
I decided to do some upgrades and Had a BullyDog shift kit installed.
When the thing was first installed the installer drove it around the block, said it was fine. I drove it approx. 25 miles home everything shifted fine again.
The next morning as soon as the tranny was called on to work i had laggy shifts that would take about a 1/2 second to engage fully, no slipping though.
You could feel it begin to shift but it wouldn't just lock into gear til a 1/2 sec. later.
Ater a couple days it subsided, and now is only showing up when you do your 3rd gear change, but it slips when i pull my 6000lb or heavier load if i accelerate mildly up a small incline, or w/ med. acceleration.
the job was done on the side at the guys dad's tranny shop. He worked where i bought the unit and they recommended him. I thought the work was being done by the shop but they closed at 5 unknowing to me, and the guy said bring it at 6pm, It was the best time to get to it. Now I don't have a warranty per se.
I have brought the thing to his dad who agreed to look at it...but he didn't do much of anything just ran a code tester on it and said i had tranny problems because the fluid was oxidized, and after the fluid change the thinner fluid seeps thru worn parts.
I ook it to a tranny shop where they charged me to look at the valve body where the kit was installed they said it was installed fine, and wanted me to pay $400 more to go in deeper or rather if i didn't do the work they found it was $400.
The dust they saw in the pan seems to me to be the dust from the slipping at around 5 times from the trailer and the first person who told me "to get on it" when he ran the code test for his son.
I was told by Bullydogs reps that it could be scored on the end of the accumulator, if i got that right.
PLEASE HELP! Bullydog won't help, they're reps seem to know little one didn't even know if my truck required the drilling to install, turns out it didn't come with a bit in the kit, so no, just install the parts.
The installer wants to just take out the kit and put a factory in, but i am afraid because he said that if the tranny is bad then the increased line pressure from the new kit is helping hold everything together. I say i had no problems previously at all.
Thanks,
Chris
