Increasing Performance

I just picked up a 67' F250, and I think its a 352. It feels a bit sluggish, but once I get going speed and performance picks up. What would be the best thing to do to increase performance "off the line"? I have a budget of about $1,200. I'm pretty sure I already have a four-barrel carb on there, and I just had a nice 2 and a 1/2" double barrel exhaust system installed. Should I upgrade to an Edelbrock carb and maybe a new fuel-intake manifold?

Thanks

Well I'd recomend headers and a new air box. Get the KN filter with the topflow unit. I really don't know what it costs to stroke a 352 into a 390, but that seems like the way to go. Other than that, a cam and new roller rockers. If you already have a four barrel on there, it probobly wouldn't be worth your money to buy a whole new intake manifold unless you get it cheap. However, if you find out you have a two barrel, definetly put a four barrel on. I drove a two barrel 390 with headers as the only mod, and I could spin the tires at will. So maybe stroking it would be the way to go. I'm still new to the FE line, so wait for other response, i'm sure they will be plenty. congradualations on your new ride!

All the above info is good but try advancing your timing a little. It can make a world of difference depending on where it is now.
