I have a 96 explorer and I have no power and a back fire when you try to give it gas, I have replaced the fuil pump, filter air filter, egr, egr sens, tps, fuil pres. reg, mass air, o2 sens plugs, wires, the thing is running 18% advanced but its electric ignition. I even replace the injectors, its geting expensive. is there anything else besides the crank and the cam sens that could be bad or the computter and finaly what is the inerta switch and would that cause this
Not that I can see but I cant find a vacume diagram the book I have does not show them I have srayed throtel cleaner around and the truck did not choke up is there another way to tell how ca I test to see if the relay might be going bad on the fuil pump
I seriously doubt your fuel pump has anything to do with the no power/back firing. I've only ever had one problem with back firing and it had to do with the transmission modulator valve. Someone else who's better qualified should chime in soon.
There are three vacume lines that come off the intake on is s shaped and does not fit tight I think that might be it I will put a hose clamp on it onight and try it out any other sugestions would be great ( other than burning it to the ground I have to much $ inh it now
just cut one cat off and hollowed the other out ran pipe back out. its not that or the tps or mass no codes come up on it I am at a complete loss it is acting like it is not geting enuff fuil when you get in to it or maybey not a good spark put a used ingnition coil on it and its still the same can you adjust the timing manualy on this truck
check the fuel pressure regulator, it sounds like it had gone bad and dumping raw fuel into the intake via a vacuum hose. you should find it on the fuel rail.
Thanks I checked the vacs and found one it runs a bit better but still is missing when you get in to the gas and back fires. the shift modual in the trany is bad would this cause this????? I pull it down in to first and then shift it up as I go.
backfire normally means the spark is occuring at the wrong time. either the timing is way off, or the timing chain has jumped a tooth and cam is in the wrong positon.
