I have a 91 ford 350 7.3 non turbo diesel. It need a new motor and I found a 97 heavyduty stakebody with a 7.3 turbodiesel. What are the major differences between the two? And can I use the newer motor without heavy modification to the truck or engine?
Thanks for the help

one has a turbo and one doesnt, tha harness will be very different, you are comparing a OBD1 enigne harness to a OBD11 engine, very differnet harnesses, sensors computers, cruise contoller, etc

It goes far beyond that. The 7.3 IDI is a mechanical injection setup. It is a 7.3 L motor and that is about where any similarity ends. The Powerstroke is an evolution of that engine, but is all electronically controlled and activated.
Yes both motors are considerably different other that the 7.3L. I know a couple of guys who have gone from a 6.9IDI to a 7.3IDI. But usually if you wanted to go to a powerstroke, I would suggest buying a new truck, otherwise just rebuild or replace your 7.3L IDI.
