Not that this is needed, but I just feel like adding it. Yes, the 5.4s have plug problems, but I've persoanaly gotton 24.6 mpg on one hwy trip in it, and can easily get 21 on the hwy all day. In town, I can get 16 pretty easy too, and if I watch what time I drive, and rate of accleration 17 is easy, and those numbers are better than the 4.2s, and the 5.4 has plenty of extra power.
Good to see you got everything out. I'm hoping to do my plugs soon, and I'm hoping everything goes like planned.
One more point, and this is a good one;all those years the 5.4 was spitting out plugs, now you can't get them out! Why should it be the consumers responsibility to fix this F*&$ UP Ford made! Ford better fix this problem, and fast,or I see alot of P.Oed 5.4 owners!
I have a few questions, has anyone followed the TSB to the tee and failed at getting the plugs out? At what mileage? Has anyone replaced a set of plugs after applying the never seize? How many miles did you go after the never seize was applied? Did it fix the problem? What happened after 2006 making the TSB for plug removal no longer apply? Did the head design, spark plug change? Did they just apply never seize at the factory? I have an 04 with about 44K and dont want to play with it if I dont need to! Any answers would be great. Floyd

One of the reasons that Ford's sales were down by 20%?! Hard to imagine Toyota sticking their customers with this. "Oh, I broke the plugs when you asked me to change them so now you owe me an extra $4,000!" I doubt you can even say that in Japanese!

Finally, a statement I can agree with.... I've been waiting, waiting, and waiting for SOMEONE to give us 5.4 3valvers some sort of plug-changing inspiration, but it seems either nobody wants to think about it or nobody has gotten to it YET. I'm not mad that I might have made a mistake when I unknowingly bought this engine. I'm mad that Ford has had over 4 years to find an adequate fiand I don't mean pop off the heads or some makeshift rotunda tool that halfa-- works). Guess I'll keep waiting for the miracle to arrive. In the meantime, it has run like a charm for 40k miles, no complaints otherwise.
I have owned my 04 FX4 for 4 months now and am not going to worry about broken plugs for the simple fact at 100 bucks a set i might as well buy the 200 dollar extraction tool. This is the newest vehicle i've ever owned and plan on it lasting 280k plus.
Snap-On has the tool for just over $90. Think I might be purchasing this as my '04 Lariat just reached 157k. I ended up breaking only one when I replaced the originals at 95k but thankfully I've got a good friend who works for a local dealership and bailed me out in my own garage. Trying to avoid calling him again.
