I'm looking into installing my own disc brake conversion to my 9" axle. I've been trying to come up with a solution for the parking brake. I've seen the Gm calipers with the lever on the back but can't find which year/make/model Gm they come off of to look up parts/prices for the calipers and pads. Anyone ever tackled this? I looked at a set on a '85 cadillac but they aren't self adjusting which I want. Anyone have a solution? Or if anyone also knows of a conversion from the Crown Vic style parking brake which has the drum made into the rotor. Know any systems that will swap over to a 9" with out major mod's?
I need the gm calipers with the lever and large spring on them. I see them in 75% of the photo's for conversion kits out there but none of the kits list which year/make/model chivvy they came from.
I've been told about that system but never had experience with it. What components do I need and what kind of mods are we talking. I talked to my boss yesterday and he said one thing they do is hood up a pressure sensor to it and then hook that up to the horn so that if it ever looses pressure, the horn goes off as a warning. What parts am I gonna need?
You can get this style: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-BU...spagenameZWDVW or you can get the electric version that runs off of a solenoid. Never heard of using the horn as an alarm, but if it goes off, might just be too late. The one on our wheel lift truck is at least 15 maybe 20 years old now, and as far as I know it has never gave out. I've seen this truck hold over 8000 pounds (plus the weight of an f350 6.9 1980 era) on steep grades no problem. Its set up right next to the drivers seat on the floor, just push the brake, reach down and flip it.
