I'm adding back on what the PO took off at the rear of the frame, Think this will work? I figured that the only thing there is the bed mounts and bumper so it should'nt be too much stress. Thoughts?
I have to do the same thing with my F-4. In order to use a dump box on the bigger trucks the box installers would cut the last 10-12 inches of the frame so when the box is up it would clear the frame. I have a factory flatbed so I need the extra frame. I cut some patch pieces off of a COE I recently scrapped.
Looks good to me. But if you plan to pull a trailer I would reinforce the splice with a "fish plate, a diamond shaped piece of metal to bridge the splice so the stress on the welds will be diagonal rather than up/down and back/forward. I hope I explained that correctly. Something like this:
Is your rear crossmember relocated? or removed for this work? It looks to be about a foot further forward than my '52's. It should be right at the rear spring hanger.
Meanie does the pulling for me, This is just a cruiser/DD. Thanks for the info Bob! I'm a soso self taught welder so i need all the tips i can get.
Ross I pulled the rear cross-member, It was bent and the donors is strait. Since I'm putting plates behind the spring hangars i had to leave it off and do a little modding to make it fit.

looks good to me, the fitment is close, that makes for a better weld also......
Fitting it and making sure my measurements were right took me a bit. Welded them up last night along with some other spots so I'll be grinding welds tonight.
