Ford Fever

I am making the transformation from GM to Ford by dropping my Yukon in favour of a 2003 Expedition EB and as soon as the Olds dies another Ford. My wife loves the Expedition and so do I. However I don't see it very often anymore.

I've seen a few Excursions on the road as of late and was wondering what it would be like to have one. Well I really want one is the truth.(small man syndrome maybe???) Anyway, I've always wanted a heavy truck.

I need some good feedback to convince the VP of Finance (wife) that we need another FORD SUV. (I must be sick)

Are these good trucks or what????

Thanks...Joe

Thumbs up it's a Great Truck

I have an 06 F250 SD CC w/6.0 Auto 4x4 and it's been a great ruck for the last 25,000 miles with no issues.

Only problem was that ever since the first X went on the market I couldn't shake it off! Seven years later, with 2 years of driving the F250, I still wanted an X. It's a much longer story but the bottom line is I stumbled upon an 00 X LTD 4x4 w/7.3 and I just can't stop driving it. Could my X be the one I climbed all over on at the 2000 auto show?

A few simple mods and some other minor changes and I'm getting 17 mpg around town and, if I'm a good boy, I can get about 20.4 to 21 mpg on the highway. That doesn't happen very often, but I can get that kind of mpg if I want too. I'm sold on it. What more can I say. When I had my 96 F150 w/5.0 gasser/auto I couldn't get more than 13-14 mpg, however I can't say one bad thing about that truck either (except about the time my neighbor's tree feel on it....).

Now all you need to do is convince the wife that you didn't pay me to say this and start shopping. Good luck.

Ernie.

Hey first welcome to FTE
Alright I bought a 00 Excursionin in 2000. It has the 7.3l and almost every option. I love that truck to death it has treated me verry well. The only big problem I have had is the trany. I had it rebuilt in 2003. That is the only big problem I have had with the truck. I love that Excursion so much I decided to buy another one. So I went and bought a 04 Excursion with the 6.0l in 2004.
The only problems I have had so far are A EGR valve went out in the turbo.
Both trucks have gone threw allot with me. If you are into towing my 04 tows a 13,000 toy hauler (I know its over weight) but it tows it like a chapm,
Hope this helps,
Nick

XGMer,

First off welcome to FTE. The sooner you get out of your girlie man bowties the MANLIER you will certainly feel!

Seriously...I've got some very good friends that drive bowties!

You asked how good is an Ex...well I've got to ask what do you want to do with it?

As a tow vehicle (what I use mine for to tug around a 34' ball to bumper 9000# travel trailer)...it is incredible...BUT it didn't start out that way...a few mods totalling ~$500 in suspension type stuff (rear sway bar and rear spring enhancement) and the Ex is incredible. I have two young daughters (8 and 10) and having the THIRD ROW on long trips really keeps my ears from bleeding!

As an in town people mover...well if you need to move people in town...it is my opinion there are much more fuel efficient ways to do that...but that is just my opinion.

I exploit the towing capabilities...if that is what you are searching for...I can help convince the VP of finance...

If some other capability...you will likely have to draw on some of the others here.

Again welcome to FTE...you won't find a better bunch of folks to answer your questions...very little flaming in this forum...GREAT ATMOSPHERE!

Enjoy and good luck!

joe.

Welcome...I use mine as a kid hauler, stuff hauler, sports team hauler. Well, you get the picture of where I am in life. I have owned since April of this year and love it.
I previously had an Expedition which served me very well also. I just wanted some more room and a real truck. The mileage is not a but 2-3 mpg difference between my 99 Expedition and 00 Excursion. Mine is a V-10. My in-laws have an 03 Expedition and the mpg on that and my Excursion was almost the same on our last trip.

You can haul people more economically in a minivan but will have no cargo room and it is a minivan.
The roominess of my Ex vs. the Expedition is night/day. The third seat is much more comfortable and if I do need to tow something I have the ability.

Welcome to Ford. You will not be disappointed. Also remember these trucks are big and SAFE! That is always a selling point with the wife.
