ok i have a 97 powerstroke i plan on dumping alot of money into it to get some serious power but i want a daily driver i want a SD i jus dont no wheather a 6.0 or a 7.3 i want a reg cab 6 speed dont care about power or speed jus want good milage and a reliable truck any sugestions
Well the 7.3 conventional cab without 4 x 4 would get you another 2 mpg vice with 4 x 4, but the 6.0 is supposed to better on fuel mileage if you can find a good one. I think the 7.3 has more room under the hood and may be easier to work on yourself then the newer engines. The 7.3 has a proven track record for reliability vice the 6.0 having a bad rep for this. Especially the fincy variable pitch turbo setup.
I would definitely go with the 7.3.....they are more reliable and will give you better mileage than the 6.0 IMO. I looked at both when I bought mine 7 months and have never looked back! Runs great and gets good mileage.....18 to 19 highway
and 16 plus in town, not towing.
It seems the 7.3's do get a better mileage then the 6.0's. For power and speed(both which you said you dont care about) the 6.0 would be a better motor for that.
Reliability the 7.3 has proven itself for that, and with the 6.0 as long as you stay away from the early years they are supposed to be ok too. I dont hear very often about guys bragging about a ton of miles on their 6.0's, but to be fair to that most guys that have the reliable ones, they are still a fairly new truck, not much time to rack up the miles yet.
