Just to preface, this is a 4x4 truck so you ain't getting Lincoln smooth ride no matter what you do. If your truck has the quad shock setup remove 1 pair, this will make the front end a little softer. Ford designed these trucks around high pressure gas shocks which have both compression and rebound damping, so it will be firm no matter what shocks you put on it. But in general avoid the off-raod brands and use a stock replacement from Gabriel or Monroe.

My 90 4x4 is used as a dailey driver. Been off road one time briefly since I bought it.
Don't tow anything except occassional tool rental. Don't haul anything except for projects around the house, or helping someone move. I wanted to put the Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks on it, but was concerned it would be too soft and uncontrolled ride. Went with the Monroe Reflex. Wish I had gone with the Sensa-Trac. The ride is a whole lot better than it was, but still can be bone jaring on our fine potholed roads.

By quad shocks I'm assuming that you mean dual shocks on each side (total of 4 shocks on the front end). Because that is the setup that I have an my ride is pretty stiff, is there any drawback to removing 1 set of shocks?

Been a while since I did the shocks, but I think I paid around $40 each for the Reflex shocks. I think the sensa trac were about $33.
Best I can remember I got them from Rock Auto.

You have to get your hands dirty to take them off.
