Help, my 97 F150 keeps blowing the fuse for dome light/power windows. I know it must be a short (circuit has no modifications or ads that I know of) but it is an intermittent problem (fuse may last 2 hours or 2 weeks) and I cannot pin down the cause. Is there any way to determine the short without disconnecting the various bulbs/switches etc? Or do I need to get a wiring schematic? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks:-(
check out the wires behind your battery. I had the same problem, turned out that wires had been rubbing on the evap tank for the ac. Also look for any arc marks in your engine compartment.

good luck
Probably not the same, *but* I had the EXACT same problem with wife's 99 Taurus. Dealer had it twice and found the reason only by accident after looking into everything twice and giving me several fuses to use in the meantime so I could get the window up if it failed down!
It turned out that the wires to the aftermarked FORD-installed remote starter/alarm had been run under the driver's side floor covering about half way up from the floor to the firewall and the insulation on the windows/dome circuit wire that had been used to tie in to the alarm or something had worn thru in one spot and grounded out on the floor pan when you stepped only in a certain spot and only just so hard. If the guy at the dealer had not stepped on it and (he said) actually heard the fuse pop, I might still be having the problem. This was 2 months ago and only started about a year after having the car.
You might want to try looking for the exotic if you can't find it otherwise! Hope this helps you.
