Yesterday while washing my truck I noticed that I have several small chips in the paint on the bottom of the rear fenders, just behind the rear wheels. The right side is worse (drive wheel) and I want to do something about this before they really get bad.
Can anyone reccomend a nice looking and functional set of splash guards/mud flaps for our trucks?
this is the only good pic of my flaps..
after 15 years of dealing with road salt..it really raises he** with paint..I found a rugged 12 x 18 mud flap..not the cheap ones at Wally world..but a good grade rubber..I add 3 lb weights to each flap..that's the ford emblem on mine..ill get a better pic some time..I measure up 7 inches on the back from the lip at the very bottom of the fender and start my flap there and let it hang out past the fender a 1/2 inch..I go up about 5 inches on the front..so far no chips down there....
I got tired of looking at the road tar on my truck so I picked up a set from O'Reilly's yesterday for $10.00. I'm not sure I like the way they mount, but they look good from the rear. Cleaned off the tar from the side of the bed and then sprayed the tires with one of those products that always slings off and gets all over the side of your truck.
Drove around 100 miles today and the inside of the flaps have all sorts of junk on them, but the side of my truck is still clean. I'll be buying a set for the front wheels soon.
