Bed rail covers

Has anyone tried to take the black plastic bed rail covers off? I just bought a ’04 and they are very faded and have wax build-up all over them. I was going to take them off clean them up and spray them. Any help would be great. Thanks

They just pop off. Get a panel tool or something flat (plastic putty knife, etc) and get under a corner and work your way down.

Thanks black04, I just read your post that you used black trim paint. I'm planing on doing it this weekend. Did you remove the tailgate cover too? I have yet to really look at them because of the bed cover is on. I was told by one person not to remove them because you could break the clips, guess I wont listen to him anymore...

Yea I took them all off and painted them. Actually have done it a couple of times now, because I got the pressure washer too close to it and it took the paint off. I had one or two pops break on me but nothing major that didn't allow them to get put back on. Go slow and easy is better than getting a corner up then yanking the rest.

Actually 3 of the clips on mine broke. I had to buy a new cover or use screws. I used screws...

I guess it just depends on how fast you want to be done with it...

I have had all mine off a few times and have never had to replace one becase of broken pops/clips.

Those bed rail moldings are about $40.00 apiece from Ford Direct Parts
I think they are a sponser for this website.
