Brakes pulling to the right....
Brakes pulling to the right....
Hello all.........
While rotating my tires last weekend, I noticed my front pads were getting kind of thin. (since I tow alot, I don't like them getting too far down!) When I removed the right caliper, the rubber boot was torn so I bought a new caliper and hawk pads. I had the rotors turned just being an*l, and reassembled everything and bleed the entire system with new brake fluid. I then followed the instructions on the hawk box for break in.
A Few days later, I took a 100 mile drive, and by the end of the ride, when I apply the brakes fast, I get a little pull to the right (the direction of the NEW Caliper.)
Could this be a problem with the new caliper, or is the old caliper on the left just not as responsive as the new on on the right. Should I have replaced them in a pair??
What do you think.

Yank the tire on the old caliper side. Check your pads and see if you have even wear on both inside and outside pad. If not, then you might have a stuck caliper pin. If the caliper pin is frozen or non-op, then I could see how the new caliper (which functions correctly) would cause the pull to one side.
Here's a how-to on replacing the caliper pins. I used Guzzles instructions to replace the ones on my 2000 Excursion and luckily, only one was in the process of getting frozen. http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/cu.html
Here's the main page for Guzzles site. A very helpful site. http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/

PS - Put your vehicle information in your signature so we know what year and type of vehicle you have. It will help us offer ideas and help without having to ask, what year? Diesel or gas? What mods? Etc...

Thanks Stewart......
I can not figure out how to put info in a signiture!!
this Vehicle is
2005 Limited Excursion
V-10
STock
40,000 miles
I did notice when I received my new (Rebuild) Caliper, the pins were both the smooth kind (no rubber gromlet at the end), so that is the way the Right side is set up with the 2 new pins that are both smooth. Should I buy a new kit for both wheels and replace all 4 pins???

Not all the way to the top of the page, but just above the main "box" with the listing of the forums (or threads depending on which page you happen to be looking at), there are a bunch of links in white font, embedded in a blue box. User CP, FAQ, Members List, Timeslips, etc.
Click on the User CP (user control panel) and on the left side you'll see "Edit signature"
That's where you want to type your info.
If you edit your profile and put in your location, you'd be surprised how many people will offer you help if they see they live close to you.
As for the caliper pins, if you find that the pins are the cause of your pulling, just follow Guzzles instructions to a T. If the new calipers don't have the pins as described in Guzzles page, then seeing as how inexpensive they are, if it were me, I'd replace the ones in the new caliper too.
