Hi, Don't post on here very often but come here for excellent advise so thanks in advance.
Just recently purchased my 4th powerstroke. an 02 7.3 c/c 4x4 with 4inch lift.
My question is when you put the truck in 4x4 with the ac on the air changes from blowing out of the dash vents to blowing out of the defroster vents. After you switch back out of 4x4 it takes a few minutes and the the air redirects back to the dash vents. Is this a common occurence or is there a problem somewhere?
I also had a 2000 7.3 c/c 4x4 that did this also. I have checked vaccuum hoses but am at a loss as to why this occurs.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.
I am not new to the ford diesel, have had a 93 7.3, a 2000 7.3 and a 05 6.0 and now this 02 7.3.
I went back to the 7.3 as I beleive it is the better motor, the 6.o was great except for the injector problems, had all mine replaced under warranty but decided to bail before the warranty expired.
thanks
Rick
That is a symptom of a vacuum leak at the hubs. It is either from the hoses having deteriorated and now leaking or you have vacuum leak inside the hub itself.
There are some threads in this forum that talk about the testing procedure and how to narrow your search. If you run some searches you can probably find what you need. I have a few threads saved in my favorites on my home computer (at work now) and I know that a couple of them relate to this problem. When I get home I will get you some links.
I must say I am very proud of all of you, 4 people in the same thread actually spelled VACUUM right. You all get gold stars for today. Now sit back and watch how many people don't know how to spell it.
Upon further inspection of the vacuum hoses I found where someone had used a zip tie to secure the lines and had crimped the the hose I guess enough to cause a significant obstruction, I removed the tie and the sysyem is working as it should, no transfer of air to the defrost vent.
Again guys
THANKS
Rick
Yes Sir, thats why I come here, cause I love the diesels and great help is hard to come by, wish I could contribute more to fixes but hey I train Horses so if you need horse help give me a call.
On another note THE AFE intake I orded is on back order for who knows how long, called a local truck supply and he said go with K&N its the best out there
Told him "NOT", so I am off to the NAPA parts house at lunch to pick up the 6637 til the afe gets here.
So any way Seriously Thanks for all the help and I am a Certifeied Gaited Horse Trainer, so if any one needs help shoot me a message.
I rode a horse for the first time in my life about a month ago. Took the kids and wife on a Texas trail ride at the state park in Huntsville. Amazingly strong animals. The one that I rode was a like a 4x4 horse. He had to be to carry me.
