By request: Wheel adapter info for using 05+ wheels
#1
I recently upgraded the wheels on my 05 Ex to the 08 Ford OEM 20" wheels. I found a set of take offs which fit the style I was looking for (Polished Lariat 8 spoke).
To get these wheels to work you must use a spacer to take up the extra backspacing that the 05+ Super Duty wheels provide. I purchased these wheel spacers from Fred Goeske at wheelspacer.com. Fred is very knowlegable, and new exactly what I was trying to accomplish. In fact, he had the spacers in stock. Keep in mind the spacers are a bit spendy, ($150 x 4) but they are made custom, and the quality is top notch. For those looking for these spacers, you need 2 inch, hub centric, 8 x 170 to 8 x 170 spacers.
The spacers bolt right up the stock hub on the Ex, and the new wheel bolts right up to the spacer. It is recommended you use loctite or something similar on the threads to avoid any surprises!
I have included a couple of photos of the spacers, and finished product.

Those look good mike. Arent wheel spacers bad for ur front end though? The reason why i ask, is because i wanted to get 35's on the stock rims and i couldnt because they would rub at 95%turn. I didnt want to sell the stock rims because i liked them. the guy told me that they only way that i could fit the 35's is to buy spacers but he suggested not to do it because it is bad for ur front end. Is that true?

I was told it shouldn't be a problem because the track is so close to stock. The delta in backspacing from the stock wheel to the new wheel is about 2". With the 2" spacer the track appears stock. I guess we'll see. I will provide updates if problems come up.
The only potential issue that was brought up was the additional unsprung weight, and the potential for additional bearing wear.

Given the frequency of warped rotors, I figure I can change the bearings, if needed. during brake service.

LOL. What are the chances... I think it was your truck that I saw that gave me the idea to look into the mirrors! This is classic. A couple more Alamo members and we can start our own chapter on FTE. We'll have to meet up sometime.
