How often do you clean your after market air filter? I have a Volant. I try to clean it about 3 times a year. That's about every 8000 miles. How long will it last? They say lifetime. I would think you can only clean it so many times before it's worn out?
24000 miles per year....... wow, that really makes me love living in alaska even more !! i only average about 10 at most. as for the filter goes, do you live in a dusty environment? if so, i would say it would need it more often. as for being reusable, they are made fo some good stuff nowadays... kinda like a screen. so, washing and oiling them souldnt affect them.... however if done incorrectly can definately affect your engine.
I had a K & N type filter on a cold air intake on my '01 Mustang GT and once a year for cleaning was more than enough. It's pretty damn dusty here in Northern Nevada.
You would think you could get a year between cleaning. I hadn't looked at mine in maybe 6 months. When I opened the cover just to check, it was filthy. It had all kinds of plant stuff in the ribs and dirt. It makes me think I should clean it sooner next time. I think for me 2-3 times a year is what it will take to keep it clean. I get such crappy mpg I want to do everything I can do to help.
