Question Is it possible?

I was wonderig if it was possible to swap an 03 VGT exhaust turbine wheel into my 04 housing with little to no fitment issues. I was wondering because my truck has an 03 motor, but the turbo got replaced with an updated one. I miss the jet plane whine it used to have. Already have an MBRP 4" straight pipe and I'm looking for more whistle. Thanks.

Just curious, why do you have an 03 motor in your 04? And is there that big of a difference in the 03-04 turbo whistle?

My truck was built in 1/04, so from what I understand, it is considered an 03 motor. Also, there is a big difference because the 03 turbine wheel had 10 fins (Ithink) ad the 04-07 had 14 fins. The lesser amount of fins produces a louder whistle. I think they changed it in 04 because too many people were complaining that it was too loud. Yea right!

Engines built on & after 09/29/2003 are 04 motors in 04 trucks, engines built before 09/29/2003 are 03 motors and were installed in both 03 & 04 trucks. There were several changes to the motors that went into production on 09/29/2003.

In the tech folder is a link to all the running changes to the 6.0 through its production. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/52...ml#post3974497

Engines built from 01/11/2006 have the latest changes, where installed in 06 & 07 trucks and are considered to be the most trouble free.

As for your original question, custom VGT turbos can be built with the 03 style of wheel, it is a little more complicated than just a drop in swap, contact Matt at Spartan Diesel and he can give you the options and prices.

the quick answer to your question is NO.

not only are the a different number of blades on the turbine wheels, but one is about 3mm larger than the other one. you would have to change the housing too...

and if you drive your truck daily on the street, you will be better off with the 04 anyway, as the 03 has a quite a bit more lag ,

Thanks LvTitan, that was the exact answer I was looking for. Guess I will just have to get a bigger turbo altogether .
