I bought an '84 302 from a '84 Mustang GT a friend of mine had and set it in a '85 Ford F-150 4x4. He started it up and I heard it run before I bought it. The oil pressure was up about 3/4 on the pressure gauge. To make a long story short, after about a month or so it wouldn't start one day. The shaft on the oil pump had stripped but we didn't know about until after we tore it down and found it. So I decided to go ahead and overhaul it from the ground up. Everything was new on the inside. After the rebuild everything was running fine except for about 6 to 8 months later I've noticed the oil pressure is down around the 1/4 to low mark after it warms up. It still had a high pressure reading even after the rebuild but I've got sneaky feeling something aint right and I don't want to ruin a good strong motor like this one. Anybody got any ideas?
when you drained the oil was there any junk in it? Could be a clogged pick up. I had a 5.0 do that not long afert rebiuld it was some gunk clogging the sending unit you may want to look there.
Get a good mechanical oil pressure gauge and see what the actual pressure is. Don't get a gauge with plastic tubing; the better ones use copper tubing.
