These are not fuel injected motors. I believe the gear is 3:55. I have put a tape to the tires, they're about 29 1/2 in. tall. If you are running that and not babying it for 16 to 17mpg, you've got a gem. Wait-86 302's are fuel injected aren't they? With that and the 3:73's I could see it, but that's still pretty good. My motor isn't perfect yet, but I'm gettin there. Seems to have developed a suspension issue or something, I have to look at it tomorrow. I am happy with the way it is running though, it's my 86 351w I need to be tweaking on.
Anyone else on the mileage input?
P.S. My pump is turned up on my diesel, and it smokes alot. Never had a problem.

manual 5 speed tranny will help in mileage, though the m5od isn't the best for towing heavy loads. And yes efi didn't start on the 300 til '87. Most guys/gals talking of 18 or more mpg typically have efi. One attempt to better mileage would be to swap to a 2bbl or 4bbl carb, strange as that sounds.

Don't know, motor hasn't been in that long. We are gonna check lean/rich today. It's noon here and I've already done a starter and an alternator (86 and 65), so now I can start on some other things.
