Bellhousing question

I have an NP-435 with a carbed 300. The bellhousing has a significant crack (probably 2.5-3 inches) in it and I am planning on pulling the engine to do some repairs and am wondering if it would just be easier to go to a scrap yard and get another one or if I should have it welded up?

if you can find a good one in a junk yard i'd probably go that route. it's a cast iron bell housing and cast is hard to weld. ud probably have to take it to a welding shop and could cost as much as a junkyard one anyway

I've welded cast many times with my small mig, the trick is to heat it up before you weld it, but its still a crap shoot, depends on how good you are, if you have never messed with it I would just buy another, I did it just to see if I could do or not

If you can find another one that's great. Go that route. Otherwise be sure to use nickel rod to weld cast iron.
