My 96 F-150 6cyl A/C is blowing out of the defroster vents and will not switch over to the cab vents.....any answers out there?

Had the same issue on my 1995 and I found a cracked vacum line on the passenger side under the hood. It was along time ago but it was near the firewall and I believe it was an off white color. Its connected to a round type of check valve.
