4wd squeal

I have a 99 Ranger whose 4wd works fine, but after switching out of 4wd I have a light squeal from the front wheels that sometimes lasts for months. It'll go away but returns after next 4wd use. Something to worry about?
Thanks,
Will

Wrap electrical tape around the shafts and tie it to a point on the frame and drive,
in 2wd the tape should stay if not you got some parisitic drag in there somewhere. Do you have auto hubs?

Try using 4WD more often. Engage it a couple of times a week for 10-15 minutes. The squeal should go away after a while. This is something the PVH 4x4 systems have been prone to on occasion.

Yes, by all means engage your 4x4 system at least once a month in both ranges, just back in forth in the driveway if nothing else. This helps keep the shift motor and other parts freed up and workink prroperly. Some guy's engage thier 4x4 once in 7 years and ask on here why it won't engage. Even with a manual t-case lever, the less it's used, the stifer it is to engage, the more it's used, the easier it is to engage. The electric shift motor can't apply the same strength your arm can, so engage it often.
