I've spent that last 3 days trying to install a new 390 in my 76 F150 4x4 without any luck.
I'm starting to think I need to remove the tranny bolts to allow me to jack up the transmission further..Can I do this safely without having to worry about the transfer case falling on me?
I can't seem to get the tranny shaft into the pilot bushiing..from looking at the bushing, I can tell the shaft is hitting a little low.
This in turn leads me to think I need to get the tranny higher..
Can this be done?
how does the tranny mount in the truck? because on my 2WD you have to support the tranny to pull the engine, if the tranny is just held in place by it's crossmember and the one for the transfer case you may just need some force up on the front of the tranny
I finally got the thing in...I've never had an engine go in so hard in my life. I ended up bolting the bellhousing to the tranny first, along with installing the throwout bearing. It still took a good 2 hours to get the shaft to engage in the pilot bushing.
A lot of new words have been discovered while doing this
Then, to complicate matters more, Napa sold me 2 LH motor mounts instead of one for each side. That took a while to figure out as well. Anyway, now it's dropped in and all is left is the accessory parts, and hopefully down the highway I go!
