2003 EB - Did a brake job this morning and while I was doing it I had the radio on. Strangely enough when I started it up the gauges went haywire. I did'nt think anything of it, then I went for a test drive and the driver's power seat and the power mirrors don't work and it seems like the car is not charging.
The fuses for the seat and mirror are fine.
When I hook a trickle charger up to it, after about five minutes the charger trips out like its overloaded. I would assume the battery is bad but what could be up with the seat and mirrors?
I knew it was charging, but since the seat/mirrors weren't working, I thought maybe something else was wrong. Well I dropped it off at Ford, they said I needed a new Alternator, the Alternator harness, and the drivers seat module (Computer that controls the memory settings for the seat, the pedals, and the mirrors)
$ 1,400 later (OUCH) I should be back on the road.
Just thought I would update everyone, just in case it happens to someone else.
I'm thinking maybe the alternator problem may have caused a surge that fried the module.
I just read your post, I would try changing the alternator only, when mine went all the gauges went as you explaine "haywire". I doubt you need to change your harness if you have 2003, haven't changed mine yet and its a 97.
