I have a fuel leaking from the base of the fuel filter housing. There is a round opening approx. 1.5 inches in diameter with a plug/cap held in by a snap ring. Leak rate is a drop every 10 t0 15 seconds. The opening faces to the rear. Using a mirror it's the only place I'm able to see fuel dripping. Anyone know what this is? And how to fix? Only leaks when the engine is running. Saw a drop on the bottom of the water drain valve before starting the engine but didn't see anything coming from there when the engine was running.
O.k.. Got a better flashlight. Looks like it's coming from either the drain valve or what appears to be a sensor on the fuel bowl. They're next to each other and the filter housing is equally wet at both locations. Can't tell where it's running from but saw it drip from bottom of housing to the location I previously described. Have to try to dry and clean it. What's the sensor on the bowl?
It's most likely the drain valve itself. A lot of guys have had issues with them. You can buy a whole new valve, or just replace the o-rings. A no-brainer decision there huh?
Do a search on it and you'll find plenty of info. SpringerPop posted a real handy list of the common o-rings for the 7.3L.
