About a month ago I bought two trucks from a guy for $2500. The first is a 93 f350 7.3 turbo. This truck has no problems and runs good but the other truck (94 f250 7.3 turbo) has oil in the radaiator and water in the oil. Is this a blown head gasket or another problem.
Sounds like a oil cooler that has been bad for awhile. When it is running the oil in going into the coolant system. When it is shut off the coolant is going into the oil system.
Mounted to the drivers side of the engine . Looks like a cylinder shaped object bolted to the side of the block . I haven't changed one yet , but it looks easy .
You can take it off and test it but when you take it off you might as well reseal it. You don't have to buy a new core unless it is busted. It can be repaired.
With the right tools, this may work for you. Drain engine oil. Leave out plug. Top up rad. Use a cooling system test rig to pressure the cooling system to 15 psi. Watch guage for a pressure drop over 1 hr. Look for antifreeze coming out your oil pan drain. Good luck. What is the miles on your trucks. Cheers Rick
You can re O ring the oil cooler for about 50 dollars in parts.
The oil cooler can be removed with the engine in the truck, but you have to unbolt the drivers side motor mount.
Jack the engine up and block it at the highest position.
Drain the radiator.
Remove the oil filter.
Remove the six mounting bolts for the oil cooler.
Now it may be removed.
