My 97 f350 psd has a fuel leak, I have searched for it but can locate it. From my reading many post here I am fixen to just tackle the fuel pump and buy a new one. My guess at this point is that it is leaking from the weap hole on the pump itself. The diesel smell is getting annoying and it leaves a 6 inch diameter stain on the driveway everynight. Does this seem like the right approach at this point?
First I would dry up the valley with paper towels and a long screw driver or long needle nose pliers. Then run the truck until you see the first signs of fuel in the valley.
Front of the valley could be: cracked fuel filter housing, o-rings on the water drain valve, o-rings on the water in fuel sensor, leak in or at hoses on the FPR or from the filter housing to the fuel pump.
Rear of valley could be: fuel pump, rear of hoses from the filter housing to the fuel pump, banjo fitting, fittings on the high pressure fuel lines going into each head.
Once you have it isolated you will know what to fix or replace. Good luck and let us know if we can help.
