First off Glad to see a group I can talk to in time of Trouble on my Expy.
now, I'm having 4wd problems,, i have a 1998 Expedition, xlt with Torque on demand, selectable 2wd awd 4hi 4 lo... i can shift into awd but i don't think it is working, when i shift into 4 lo or 4 hi all i get is a clicking noise from behind the dash, and it won't go into 4wd... i have checked the solenoids on the firewall, and they seem to be working fine, and the axle actuator on the front axle seems to be ok,, little tight, but otherwise it will move,, what next??? this is the first no mechanical 4x4 i have owned, am i'm lost
Take it for a drive on a loose surface road. Dirt, sand, or wait until it rains. Then turn the steering wheel completely to one side while the 4wd is selected. You should get that typical 4wd scruff from the front wheels. AWD only engages when the drivetrain detects slippage at the rear wheels.
