Another rag joint question

I have a '76 F150 4x4 with power steering. I bought one of those universal Ford rag joints on Ebay. It came and I noticed it only had one of the studs I needed. Since you have to grind off the end of the originals to remove them, I couldn't reuse them. I had to go to Napa and buy another kit, which also only came with one stud. Question is, the threaded part of the studs are a tiny bit too short or maybe the coupler is too new but I wasn't able to put the supplied lock washer under the nut on the end of the new stud. Instead, I had to Loctite the nut and tighten as tight as I could. Is this ok or should I grind a bit off the new coupler? I don't want the steering to come apart as I am driving down the highway! Thanks all

What I wound up doing is Loctiting one nut and JB Welding the other Hope I can get them off when I need to replace again!

I replaced mine years a go and never had to grind anything, or use JB weld.

The old one was COMPLETELY gone though, maybe that helped me.

Depends on if you buy just the coupler or the coupler and piece it bolts to together as one.

I replaced just the rag joint in my steering coupler it wasnt too difficult. It is tricky to figure out how it all goes together. My coupler wasnt put together right when I pulled it apart to begin with so I had to figure it out. But I dont see why you would have to grind any studs off.

Hey there. I am about to replace my rag joint on my '78 F250 4x4. It appears that my old one is completely gone as well. Not sure where to start. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks for your time.

I have a new rag joint, but with the old one gone, I am not sure where to start. my truck has a cone shaped dealy that is attached to the steering box. The drive shaft goes into that cone coupler thing. Which way does the rag joint go? One side has the nuts and round posts, the other has a bolt around a splined fitting. Also it came with a C shaped metal thing that bends up in the middle. Where does that go? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Aaron

Well, come to find out, i don't have a rag joint in my steering system. I have a coupler with a blown bearing. I also came to find, that part is obsolete, Grrrr. Found some spots to look for one. What is my next option when these parts are no longer available?
