Unhappy We have some new ugly children.

Wow!!!! What has Ford R&D been drinking?
We have now gotten 6 new f350 Super Duty XLT's
From the side they are cool. New front fender vents (yes even the V-10's have them not just the beaners)
Cool body lines. Bad A** suspension. Good looking wheels.
But the front grill/headlamp look is terrible. I mean ugly.
I can over look the gaudy SUPER DUTY embedded in the passenger side dashboard and the SUPERDUTY molded in tailgate.
However the Black plastic grill -w- old style H6054 or H4666 sealed beams and once again embedded with SUPER DUTY is bad. Not badd a** as a SD should be.
I guess if that is the way to save on cost its ok for a work truck.
The problem is the Chevy guys ******* on the new ugly children has me and my Excursion feeling "let down".
What do you think?
Rich.

The Chevy's bumper does look like an after-thought, but the new SD front end is a no-thought - kinda looks like a retarded buck-tooth rabbit - no way i'd give up my 7.3 for one - i thought the new Dodges were ugly, but WOW did the Ford guys take that crown

Sounds like you have XL's, not XLT's. The XLT's are groing on me, but the standard XL headlights are pretty stupid. The 08 E series is even uglier. Chevy is the worst though.

I'd have to say I agree with you.

The grill is too big, but can somewhat be covered up with a bug deflecter.

The headlights and placement are horrid, giving a droopy eyed look.

I'm not sure what embossing SD all over was supposed to accomplish? You can definatly tell what it is without it.

The Chevys have nothing to brag about they are Fuglier than the Ford.

I think I'll keep my 04'.

For me it depends on the body style. A regular cab doesn't look so good, but an F-350 or F-450 DRW Crew Cab tends to balance out the massive front end well.

(Is saying F-450 DRW CC redundant?)

Also, the F-450 front fender flares help.

(Flame suit on) I have to agree that I do not like the new Ford front end, but will go further and say that the chevy looks better than it has in a long time and I think from the front end, it looks better. I cannot, nor will I ever buy, a brand new vehicle, but I will need/want another truck a few years down the road. It will certainly be a V10 SD, but it's gonna have to be a pre '08.

I think the new 1/2 ton Chevy front end looks good, but the HD trucks have been seriously beaten with an ugly stick.

Much agreement. The big truck front end is definitely balanced out with a big truck back end. I actually had the thought that it looked.... uhhhmmm.... good.

It's just too massive a front end for SRW or short wheelbase SDs. I'm sorry but the XLs are horrid. The combination of the super tall grille and low slung headlights just throws the whole mess off.

The current chevy is definitely better than the slanted headlight look of the last version.

I have to say that the '08 SD XL with the old school headlights is hideous. They should not be used period. The new front end was tough enough to get used to without them throwing spare parts on it for the XL to save a nickle. As far as the upscale models go, I have to admit it took me along time to start to warm up to the new look. I'm not keen on the parking lights above the headlight look. My take is that certain colors really help the look of the '08 and others hurt it. With the old SD you could pretty much get away with any color.

Ford Surveys

Hate the new front on the Super Duties. Was thinking about replacing my 2001 but no way until they redesign the front. I wonder if Ford monitors these types of forums for customer feedback? If so put me on the side that is wondering what they were thinking - especially with the headlights and plastic.

Who was it on this site a while back that said the front end looks like that of the Griswolds station wagon from the movie "National Lampoon's Vacation"? I thought it a reasonable comparison.

I like the new front end, of course mine is all chrome, its all a matter of taste. Traded in a 97 PSD which I swore I'd never do....my favorate body style by far. I am growing fond of the new one though....
