1993 E250 351 stalling in reverse only
When I got the van back, I let it sit for a few months. The mechanic told me that it will stall in reverse until the ECM is reset with a few hours and dozens of miles of driving. He claimed the the Taurus behaved just like that when the tranny was severed and reattached.
Anyhow, I drove it around the township here and there and it did seem to improve. I would give it gas as I had it in reverse and it would make it through most of the time. Anyhow, I had another friend who owns a body shop diagnose it as an idle speed control sensor and replaced that. That SEEMED to work at first.
However, the real problem seems to be that after the truck is driven or the hotter the engibe gets, the more it will stall in reverse. It runs excellent for the first 10 minutes.
So the bodyshop friend who replaced the idle speed device, thinks it is some sensor the goes bad having to do with the tempeture which is a cheap and easy fix. What do you think?
PS: The drive train is well taken care of, but has 215K on the motor and rear, and 60 k on the tranny.
