Hi. This caught my attention as my truck started doing the exact same thing a year ago. Now, it's worse. It'll die about half the time when you put it into drive, and it doesn't want to idle very long before shuddering and dying at a stop. I've been told my torque convertor is going out, but can't check any transmission codes because my indicator on the end of the gearshift doesn't light up. I've replaced it too, still nothing. If I find out anything else, I'll post again. BTW, I have 300-6 eng. and E4OD trannny. Let me know if your friend's transmission is the same.
About 6 months ago give or take there was a post on one of these Truck sites about this problem. A Ford tech who visits all the time said something about a real simple fix. Do some searching.
