Well I want to add STP fuel additive to my truck, and I'm just afraid I'll screw something up.lol. Can someone please kindly give me directions. Thanks.
On these 5.4 3-valve engines be careful. Some of the additives can foul plugs. Did you know plugs aren't warranteed if you used additive or octane booster?
Waste of money IMHO - unless there is something wrong with the fuel system. But in that case, you should be fixing the problem, not band-aiding a fix by using cleaner.
I look at it this way - a dirty fuel system would cause an increase in emissions. The government does not like excess emissions. This is the same government that would rather poison you to death than have you skip out on the tax for a bottle of booze. So you better believe that if a certain level of detergency in fuel will keep the system clean, they will mandate that level and be happy to let you pay for it.
I've torn apart injectors, carbs, fuel systems, and engines with well over 100,000 miles and never seen a hint that the fuel was causing a build-up. In my own cars, I'm always seeking out the lowest fuel price from what ever station happens to come up and never noticed a fuel system problem in over 650,000 cumulative miles of driving.
No, Your not going to harm anything with one bottle. If you used it every tankful, 4 times a month, for a whole year, maybe. one bottle, nay, your fine to use it if it may you feel better. Changing you fuel filter is another step that you may want to take, if your worried about your fuel system. There is an article on how to do it on this site.
Oh yeh, you can just add it to your 3/4 tank, no problem. read the Bottle. as long as your in the 10-25 gallon range your fine. Say on the bottle "treats up to xx gallons"
Has anyone started a list of what will/will not screw up the ethanol sensors in the Flex Fuel vehicles? I was guessing that was one reason they say not to run any kind of additive, just to be safe.
