Question ele. choke always hot

I have a 85 f250 with new 460 w/ edelbrock. I found a dead battery after a few days not using the truck. Then noticed choke not working during cold start. I checked the choke this morning with key off and it was hot, quite hot. I let it cool then changed the power source and it heated up. Has anyone ran into something like this or is there anyone out there that can help? Thanks

It should be on a key-on source. Get a testlight or meter, and you should not have voltage at the choke unless the key is in the run position.

Thanks Dave. Choke has volt. with key in off postition. power source runs off the alt. I chased the wire and it seems fine. I suspect the alt. maybe a short. Any other ideas?

I've got the same carb and I ran a wire from a key-on tab on my fuse block.
