We're heading up to Hayfork in a couple of weeks to check on the homestead. In addition to the 40 acres we bought a while back, we recently closed escrow on a 6 acre parcel with a 1 bedroom cabin and a loft, pond, and a well that is the best in the area (or so we were told by Roy, the resident "Old Timer" we know.) I'll post photos when we get back. At least once a day I just want to run away and go hide out in the woods. Retirement's only 5 years away so we're planning our escape.
Figured it out all on my own (with a little help from my wife.) Her brother lives there. We went to visit him 2 years ago and decided it was just the place to retire. No traffic lights (or traffic for that matter), no fast food, no mini malls, lots of trees. You can breath the air and drink the water. Simple and quiet is just fine with us. Dan had nothing to do with it but he's welcome any time.
Wow, Hayfork is a ways up North, I had to mapquest it to see where it's at....been 30+ years since I was up in that area, and really don't rememeber a thing about it.
Seems like you have a "border grudge"...Ventura and Hayfork are about the same distance from the Southern and Northern (respectively) borders of California...seems like you are living your life to get notice of invasions
Hey, congrats on the pending move, I'm in your group...I want to retire with either Pine trees or Redwoods surounding me and the nearest neighbor far enough away that they need to call me to come over, for fear of making a long trip for nothing.
On your way up North, say "hey" about the time you pass the 120 exit to Yosemite...I'm a ways off the freeway, but I'll hear ya
Chet, the funny thing about it is...I used to live near Hayfork. Went to Hayfork Elementary for the second grade and my parents both taught there. I actually lived a little closer to Hyampom. I loved it up there, probably more than any other place I've ever lived...
I was talking with a guy yesterday about his impending retirement. He bought a lot on "the big island" in hawaii this year. It was surprisingly affordable. He said depending on the location they run 40 to 60K. He is a builder, so he is buying a kit house they sell there for another 60K. He says permits are much cheaper than CA. I guess there are only 140,000 people on the whole island. Just a maybe for me. Jag
If she gets to be too much to handle, stop by here on your way up and drop her off with my 96-yr-old grandad, they can keep each other company. He's a pistol too...
